Hunkapi Programs will host a complimentary summer camp for children of first responders from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 29, to Thursday, July 2, at its 10-acre ranch in Scottsdale.
The camp will provide a structured, hands-on experience with horses, animals and nature-based activities aimed at building confidence, independence and emotional regulation skills, according to a press release.
Hunkapi Programs Executive Director Terra Schaad is available to discuss the organization’s work with children of first responders, including how ranch-based programming supports youth development.
Topics available for discussion include:
How structured, hands-on ranch work with horses helps children build confidence, responsibility and emotional regulation
What a typical day at the camp includes through guided interaction with animals, outdoor tasks and group-based activities
How working with horses can reflect a child’s emotional state in real time through behavior, attention and movement
How nature-based, off-screen environments support grounding, routine-building and stress reduction in children
