The Stacy Fuson Foundation, a volunteer‑driven nonprofit focused on creating opportunities for people with disabilities to participate fully in community life, hosted its sixth annual Stacy Fuson Foundation Charity Poker Tournament recently at the Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center, 5031 E. Washington St. in Phoenix.
The event raised more than $105,000 to support individuals with disabilities through adaptive sports programs, equipment needs and other assistance, according to a press release.
“The community came together to help us raise a record amount,” Ms. Fuson said. “We couldn’t be happier. These funds are critical to improving the lives of people with disabilities. We’re going to be able to help so many people with adaptive sports equipment, everyday equipment or financial challenges that arise in the coming year. Thank you to all the generous supporters and donors who believe in our work!”
The event included a reception, dinner, poker play, casino games such as blackjack, craps and roulette, and prize drawings.
A portion of the proceeds will support adaptive sports and recreation programs at Ability360, including wheelchair tennis, dragon boating and outrigger canoeing, with at least 25% of event proceeds designated for those programs.
Additional proceeds will benefit The One Step Closer Foundation, a nonprofit focused on assisting people living with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
