Tim Thomas, president of the Phoenix Police Foundation, highlighted the importance of recognizing the 45 Phoenix officers who have died in the line of duty.
“As Arizona’s largest law enforcement agency, the Phoenix Police Department bears a tremendous responsibility to our community,” Thomas said. “This event is a powerful reminder of the courage and dedication of these officers who gave everything to keep us safe.”
The event, while solemn, is also a celebration of their lives and an opportunity for the community to come together in unity and gratitude.
This year’s Honor Run, Phoenix Police Foundation officials tell the Digital Free Press, is in support of the organization’s efforts to send the squad of fallen Officer Zane Coolidge to Police Week in Washington, D.C., in May 2025 when Officer Coolidge’s name will be engraved on the National Memorial Wall, honoring his service and dedication to the Phoenix community.
Police officials report Officer Coolidge responded to a burglary call in September 2024 with courage and commitment whereas tragically, during a pursuit, he was fatally struck.
Phoenix Police Foundation officials report participation in the Honor Run directly contributes to commemorating Officer Coolidge’s legacy and all those Phoenix Police Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The men and women of the Phoenix Police Department are ordinary men and women who are community servants oftentimes tasked with extraordinary responsibilities.

Each fallen officer has a memorial marker in the location where they sacrificed their lives for the safety of the community.
The Phoenix Police Foundation provides a map disclosing the locations of the mile markers and encourages participants to stop by as many memorials as possible on their route. The event has both walking and running options for a one-mile route and 5K route. Participants are encouraged to map a route that will take them by a memorial marker.
Over the last six years the men and women of the Phoenix Police Foundation have raised nearly 5 million dollars to meet the financial needs of the heroes who dawn the Phoenix Police Department uniform every day to protect and serve all parts of the Phoenix community.
