Western Maricopa Education Center, a career and technical education public school district, recently announced its new partnership with Phoenix Raceway, home of NASCAR Championship Weekend, at an event on the school’s Northwest Campus in Surprise.
As the new official Career and Technical Education partner of Phoenix Raceway, West-MEC is the presenting sponsor of the Phoenix Raceway Show Car. West-MEC Superintendent Dr. Scott Spurgeon and Jonathan Stone, senior director of sales — NASCAR West Region, unveiled the show car in front of students, families and friends this afternoon.
As part of the partnership, students enrolled in West-MEC’s Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Law & Public Safety, Powersports, Precision Machining, and Welding programs will receive hands-on learning related to NASCAR career paths.
“This is a one-of-a-kind partnership that will allow our students to gain imperative experience in a fast-paced environment,” Mr. Spurgeon said in a prepared statement. “Our students will gain additional confidence and composure working in such a dynamic environment and will benefit from these lessons for years to come.”
Students will put their skills to work at multiple race weekends a year until Spring 2026, starting with NASCAR Championship Weekend starting on Friday, Nov. 3.
