Wespac Residential, Inc. is announcing the groundbreaking of The Villas on Shelby, which representatives of the effort say marks a significant step forward for affordable housing in Sedona.
As the general contractor on this transformative project, Wespac joins project partners HS Development Partners, the city of Sedona, Athena Studio, and the Arizona Department of Housing in celebrating the beginning of construction on what will be Sedona’s first-ever affordable housing community funded through federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, according to a press release.
Set on a 1.2-acre site acquired by the city of Sedona, The Villas on Shelby will be a three-story apartment complex offering 30 affordable rental homes, including 24 one-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units, the release states.
The Villas on Shelby is being funded by federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits along with an investment from the State Housing Trust Fund, the release states.
Keon Montgomery, ADOH assistant deputy director, spoke at the ceremony and highlighted the importance of this funding in bringing affordable housing to Sedona for the first time through this federal program. Ian Fawley, senior project manager at Wespac Residential, Inc., noted the significance of the moment.
“This project is a testament to what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a commitment to community impact,” Mr. Fawley said. “We’re proud to bring this development to life in Sedona, where the need is urgent and the outcome will directly benefit residents who help make this city thrive.”
Construction is underway, with completion and tenant move-in scheduled for May 2026.
