Fountain Hills offers 6 new public art installations throughout downtown
Staff Reports | Community Updates
The Town of Fountain Hills is making waves in the arts community with the expansion of its successful Utility Box Mural Program, as representatives of the municipality tell the Digital Free Press the local community is looking to further solidify its commitment to enhancing the local arts scene.
In partnership with the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance, six new vibrant murals will be unveiled throughout downtown Fountain Hills this fall, transforming utility boxes along the Avenue of the Fountains and Palisades into captivating works of art, according to a press release.
Selected artists Laura Thurbon, Ignacio Garcia, and Jesse Perry will bring their distinct styles to the project, adding a new layer of beauty and storytelling to public spaces, the release states.
“Public art has the power to both shape a community and reflect its identity,” said Kate Marquez, executive director of SAACA.
“By integrating these murals into the streetscape, we are not only enhancing the visual landscape of Fountain Hills but also promoting a sense of place and community pride. The Town of Fountain Hills is demonstrating a growing commitment to both placemaking and placekeeping through its support of arts and culture. This program is more than just beautification—it is about connecting residents and visitors to the rich cultural fabric that defines the community.”
The Utility Box Mural Program has become one of the most popular public art initiatives in the area, Fountain Hills officials contend.
The murals have been taking shape since October, aligning with National Arts and Humanities Month.
