The Thurston Family Foundation has named Carrie Masters its chief impact officer, a role focused on working with nonprofit leaders to strengthen organizational capacity, leadership and operations.

Ms. Masters brings more than two decades of experience in the private and nonprofit sectors, including 20 years at LGE Design Build and nearly four years as CEO of The Worker, formerly St. Joseph the Worker, according to a press release.

At LGE Design Build, Ms. Masters began as a receptionist and later became chief operating officer and part owner. During her tenure, the company grew from $40 million to $400 million in annual revenue, expanded into two states and increased its workforce from 30 to 150 employees. Her experience also included work in architecture, real estate development, private equity and philanthropy.

Most recently, Ms. Masters served as CEO of The Worker, where she oversaw expansion of programs, housing initiatives, geographic reach and organizational infrastructure. During her tenure, the organization served more than 40,000 people and secured more than $15 million in funding.

“I’ve had the opportunity to experience organizational growth from very different seats, and I’ve learned that great organizations are built through strong people, disciplined execution, and the infrastructure to support the mission,” Ms. Masters said. “Having sat in the nonprofit CEO seat, I also understand how challenging it can be to build organizational capacity while staying focused on the people and communities you serve. I’m excited to bring those experiences to TFF and work alongside nonprofit leaders as they strengthen their organizations and expand their impact.”

In her new role, Ms. Masters will draw on her business and nonprofit experience to work with nonprofit leaders on organizational capacity, leadership, operations and infrastructure.

“Carrie brings a unique combination of business operating experience and firsthand nonprofit leadership,” Thurston Family Foundation President and CEO Ryan Flower said. “She understands what it takes to scale an organization, develop strong teams and turn strategy into execution. Just as importantly, she understands the realities nonprofit leaders navigate every day. Her perspective strengthens our ability to support leaders as they build organizations capable of sustaining and growing their impact.”
