Scottsdale has selected Kevin Burke as its new senior director of economic development and tourism, bringing leadership experience and a strong record of fostering business growth to one of the nation’s most dynamic communities.
According to a press release, Mr. Burke will provide executive leadership in overseeing the strategic direction and management of the city’s Economic Development and Tourism departments. These departments drive business recruitment, retention and expansion; implement domestic and international economic development strategies; market tourism and events; and manage contract creation and compliance.
The senior director also advances priority projects that support job creation, sustainable growth and Scottsdale’s long-term economic vitality.
Mr. Burke joins Scottsdale with more than 15 years of experience in economic development and municipal leadership, most recently serving as executive management advisor and deputy director of economic initiatives for the city of Tucson, where he oversaw strategic initiatives across a $2.4 billion municipal organization.
In his role as deputy director of Tucson’s Office of Economic Initiatives, Mr. Burke led the city’s economic development strategic plan and partnered with regional and state agencies on high-impact projects.
The city’s Economic Development and Tourism departments work to attract, grow and retain businesses; support entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems; and enhance Scottsdale’s competitive position across key industry sectors. The departments also collaborate closely with regional and state partners to advance Scottsdale’s role as a leader in economic opportunity.
Mr. Burke will begin his new role on Monday, Dec. 29.
