Report: Greg Caton hired to take role as Scottsdale assistant city manager

Greg Caton hired by Scottsdale City Manager Jim Thompson

Scottsdale City Manager Jim Thompson has announced the hire of Greg Caton as Scottsdale newest assistant city manager.

Mr. Caton, a native Coloradan with an extensive background in municipal government, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the city, according to a press release.

Mr. Caton is a local government professional who has spent the past eight years as city manager in Grand Junction, Colo.

Prior to his tenure in Grand Junction, Mr. Caton served as the town manager in Oro Valley, Arizona.

His public administration journey also includes eight years as the assistant city manager for the city of Durango.

Active in Colorado’s local government community, Mr. Caton participated in statewide multijurisdictional groups and served as a board member for the Colorado Intergovernmental Risk Sharing Agency (CIRSA). His extensive experience and leadership roles make him a valuable addition to Scottsdale.

“I look forward to joining the Scottsdale team,” Mr. Caton said in a prepared statement. “Scottsdale is an organization with an excellent reputation, and I have family who reside there, so it it’s a perfect alignment for personal and professional interests. I could not be more excited.”

Scottsdale City Manager Jim Thompson echoed a similar sentiment.

“Greg’s professional background and experience will be an excellent addition to our high-performance organization,” Mr. Thompson said. “We look forward to bringing him onboard as we continue our focus on providing world-class services to our thriving community.”

Mr. Caton assumes his new role as Scottsdale assistant city manager Monday, May 6.
