Phoenix Police Department eyes positive community building
The Phoenix Police Foundation and Courtesy Chevrolet have partnered to launch the “Cool Treats One” van, a redesigned community engagement tool for the Phoenix Police Department.
Through 2022, Cool Treats One will travel to community events in the Phoenix metropolitan area where Phoenix Police Department officers will be serving icy treats to children and their parents.
The primary function of the Cool Treats One van is to introduce community members to law enforcement in a fun and engaging way that can encourage communication and help break down barriers that might exist, city officials say.
Phoenix Police Officer Christopher Abril, who often staffs the van, says the event is a positive one.
“We would like the first contact with our department to be a positive interaction so trust and understanding can be established,” he said in a prepared statement.
Courtesy Automotive Group CEO Scott Gruwell says he and his company are proud supporters of the effort at the Phoenix Police Foundation.
“Like the Phoenix Police, Courtesy Automotive Group has been part of the fabric of our community since 1955,” he said. “We have been proud supporters of the Phoenix Police for decades and are thrilled to help make the Cool Treats One van a reality for our community.”
