The Phoenix Police Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in steadfast support of the Phoenix Police Department, is hosting its annual Women in Blue Celebration and Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 6, at the Arizona Biltmore, 2400 E. Missouri Ave.
Phoenix Police Foundation officials tell the Digital Free Press the event honors female law enforcement leaders — in sworn and non-sworn roles — for outstanding service to the residents of Phoenix.
Each year the Phoenix Police Foundation presents three awards to female members of the Phoenix Police Department who best exemplify courage, bravery, fortitude and a slate of other characteristics and accomplishments.
Of Note: Guests will be given an opportunity to make a donation to benefit the Phoenix Police Officer in critical condition after being shot in the line of duty on Sept. 3.
Honorees will be announced during the awards ceremony, which will be emceed by Carey Peña, an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist and founder of Inspired Media 360.
The 2024 Women in Blue Celebration and Luncheon categories are:
- Act of Valor — honoring a PPD employee who has exhibited exceptional courage, regardless of personal safety, in the attempt to save or protect others from harm.
- Thelda Williams Up & Comer — to recognize a PPD employee who has demonstrated exceptional job performance and leadership skills early in her career.
- Elevating Women in Law Enforcement — to celebrate a PPD employee who has promoted women in law enforcement through job performance or community involvement.
Timothy Thomas, president and CEO of the Phoenix Police Foundation, says the Women in Blue event at the Arizona Biltmore has emerged as keystone event in the Phoenix police academy.
“The Women in Blue Celebration and Luncheon has grown into one of our cornerstone events, and we are thrilled to return for a seventh year to honor three remarkable women,” he said. “Women in both sworn and civilian roles play an essential part in law enforcement and the safety of our communities. This event is our opportunity to celebrate their dedication and outstanding service.”
Of Note: Check-in for Women in Blue will begin at 11 a.m. on the day of the event ceremony, which starts at 11:30 a.m. with the posting of the colors with an all-women Phoenix Police Honor Guard. Guests will be given an opportunity to make a donation to benefit the Phoenix Police Officer in critical condition after being shot in the line of duty on Sept. 3.
