Vice Mayor Mark Stanton is announcing his candidacy for mayor of the Town of Paradise Valley.

“I am proud of my record as vice mayor and as a councilmember. I will build on these successes as mayor of our town,” Mr. Stanton told the Digital Free Press Friday, Feb. 2. “My life is centered in PV. I was blessed to grow up in the town, and my wife and I are raising our two children in my childhood home. I am asking my fellow citizens for the privilege of serving as their mayor.”

Mr. Stanton said his decision to seek the mayor’s seat is rooted in his belief in the future of the Town of Paradise Valley and the generations ahead.

“Our town was founded on limited government, while offering high-quality customer service for residents and surrounded by world-class resorts and unparalleled natural beauty,” Mr. Stanton said.

Vice mayor Stanton says he remains steadfast to the four pillars for public service to the town: public safety, fiscal sustainability, quality of life and customer service for residents.

In 2014, 2016, and 2020, Mr. Stanton was elected to serve on the Paradise Valley Town Council.

While serving on Town Council, Mr. Stanton was twice unanimously elected by his peers as vice mayor. He has served as the Town Council liaison to the Advisory Committee on Public Safety (ACOPS), Experience Scottsdale Board of Directors, Historical Committee, Paradise Valley Arts Board and HOA Forum as well as many subcommittee roles.

Vice Mayor Stanton has been an advocate for public safety, fiscal accountability, transparency, and quality of life initiatives.

A believer in genuine collaboration, Mr. Stanton has used his leadership skills to help unify and support the talents of his fellow Town Council members. Together, the Town Council has fought successfully against unregulated short-term rentals, protected local government control, supported photo radar enforcement, maintained a limited government, and preserved our residential community.

Professionally, Mr. Stanton has built a career in the private and public sectors. He has worked in leadership positions with several public relations and marketing agencies before opening his own communications firm.

As a public servant, Mr. Stanton served as chief of staff for the Maricopa County Board Supervisors — District 3. Mr. Stanton says he was honored to be appointed by the governor to be deputy director for the Arizona Office of Tourism from 2009 to 2015.

In that role, Mr. Stanton led Arizona’s national and international marketing and economic development initiatives promoting tourism, an industry that is the foundation of Paradise Valley and a key pillar for the town’s financial success.

Mr. Stanton points he is the only candidate for mayor that has served as a leader in local, county and state government in Arizona.

“Having held leadership positions at these various governmental levels, I have unparalleled experience, insight and connectivity that is a valuable commodity representing the Town,” he said.

Mr. Stanton was also tapped by the governor to plan and oversee the 2012 Presidential Primary Debate that was hosted in Arizona.

Today, Mr. Stanton serves as president & CEO of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce, an independent 501(c)(3) non-governmental organization. The Scottsdale Area Chamber is a member-based economic development organization founded in 1947.

Stanton served as past chairperson/member on the state of Arizona Personnel Board, graduated from Scottsdale Leadership Class XVII and is a life member and past patron of the Scottsdale Charros, a nonprofit group committed to youth and education causes.
