notMYkid has been awarded a $75,000 grant from BHHS Legacy Foundation to support Teen Violence Prevention programs.
The initiative aims to provide resources for Valley students, parents and schools to address issues before they escalate.
The programs were developed in response to the fatal stabbing at Maryvale High School earlier this year, according to a press release.
“We are thankful for BHHS Legacy Foundation’s grant as we work to provide support and educational opportunities for communities,” said Sarah Grado, interim chief executive officer of notMYkid. “With their support, we can help prevent another tragedy.”
BHHS Legacy Foundation funds organizations that enhance health and quality of life in the Greater Phoenix area and the Tri-State region of northern Arizona. The foundation provides grants to nonprofits with health-related programs, fosters collaborative partnerships and raises funds through Legacy Connection to support community organizations.
To date, BHHS Legacy Foundation has invested more than $150 million in nonprofits.
The Teen Violence Prevention programs include:
Equipping students with social-emotional skills, conflict resolution strategies and awareness of mental health resources.
Training parents to recognize warning signs and intervene early.
Providing teachers with tools to respond to bullying, violence and trauma in classrooms.Supporting districts in building policies and practices that create sustainable cultural change.
The funding coincides with BHHS Legacy Foundation’s 25th anniversary.
