Phoenix City Council Tuesday, April 9, appointed Carlos Galindo-Elvira to fill the district 7 seat atop the local dais left vacant by the departure of Yassamin Ansari, who is in pursuit of a seat at United States Congress this November.
Phoenix City Council appointed Mr. Galindo-Elvira to serve as the district 7 councilmember until a special election is held later this year, according to the Phoenix City Charter.
That special election will determine the Councilmember to fill the remainder of the term, which runs through 2024, officials at City Hall say.
Phoenix City Charter states that when a vacancy occurs with more than 1 year remaining in the term, the City Council must appoint an individual to fill the vacancy until a special election is held to fill the remainder of the term.
