Hope in Motion raises vital funds for FSL nonprofit organization

The Foundation for Senior Living welcomed 400 supporters for this year’s Hope in Motion.
Presented by Waymo, this special event raised over $110,000 for programming that paves the way for a future where aging in Arizona is synonymous with safety and independence, according to a press release.
The annual breakfast event gave guests and supporters a first-hand look into the lives of FSL clients through their stories, demonstrating how FSL’s programming and resources were able to help them gain, maintain, and enhance their independence, the release states.
“I’ve had the privilege of being part of this incredible journey for the past two years, and let me tell you, FSL has been my daily classroom, teaching me profound lessons about the power of a simple phone call, the immeasurable gift of supporting one another, and the boundless love abundant in our community,” Tami Bohannon, president and CEO of FSL, said during the event.
“But most of all, it’s taught me the meaning of ‘Safe to Age.’ When I look around this room, I see so many wonderfully diverse faces at every stage of life, and I’m here to say that FSL is for you. We want to be the first ones you call in crisis and in preparation because we understand the inherent challenges and the often-overwhelming nature of life’s uncertainties. FSL is here to answer the call, to provide the sense of security we all long for.”
Ms. Bohannon went on to present the Inaugural ‘Safe to Age’ award, recognizing Arizona Public Service for its ongoing support championing programs that have created profound, positive impacts on the lives of community members.
“APS has been a formidable advocate in the fight against heat-related illnesses and deaths through sponsorship of FSL’s weatherization initiatives and collaboration to create the Healthy Homes Air Conditioner Replacement Program,” Ms. Bohannon said. “To the APS team, we extend our deepest gratitude for setting the standard in corporate responsibility. Your unwavering commitment to the well-being of our community members has truly made Arizona a safer place to age.”
Ted Geisler, president of APS, offered sentiments of gratitude.
“Every single day, FSL touches and changes the lives of Arizonans,” he said. “And we are grateful for the chance to work alongside them and make a difference in our communities.”
Len, a resident of one of FSL’s affordable housing communities, took to the stage to share his story with guests. Like many who rely on FSL for affordable housing, his journey is one of early success and changing circumstances in life and health that led him to need assistance. He found his community when FSL property manager Scott VanSoest took the time to get to know him and encourage him to get the process started.
“Today, I challenge you to see beyond stereotypes, to see the resilience and strength of people like me within affordable housing communities because my story isn’t unique, it’s one of thousands. There are plenty of other folks who haven’t always been dealt the best hand,” Len said. “I don’t know where I’d be today if it was not for FSL.”
