Greenlight Communities, through its Greenlight Gives program, is offering $10,000 in support of hosting the local El Grito Celebration coming later this month in downtown Phoenix.
Phoenix’s “El Grito” celebration is a festive event that commemorates Mexico’s Independence Day and takes place on Friday, Sept. 15.
The “El Grito” celebration is a lively and colorful event that includes traditional music, dance performances, food, cultural displays, and the recreation of Miguel Hidalgo’s “grito,” according to a press release.
The celebration serves as an opportunity for people to come together, celebrate Mexican culture and history, and honor the shared heritage between Mexico and the United States, the release states.
“It is significant to acknowledge and commemorate our origins and heritage, as well as share our diverse cultural background with others,” said Phoenix City Councilwoman Betty Guardado of District 5. “By choosing Phoenix as the event’s location, a larger number of community members have the opportunity to participate in the festivities and gain knowledge about the culture.”
Greenlight Communities consistently shows their dedication to the communities in the Valley, representatives report, as the local homebuilder provides financial support to a range of community organizations aimed at enhancing the lives of people in Arizona.
Greenlight Gives has also supported Kids in Focus, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, Save the Family, Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), Lambda Legal, House of Refuge, One-n-Ten, and the American Red Cross.
“We feel proud to contribute to an event that commemorates Mexico’s independence and rich heritage,” said Patricia Watts, co-founder and partner of Greenlight Communities. “Mexico is a nation brimming with rich history, vibrant culture, and a deep sense of identity. It only makes sense for the festivities to extend into Arizona, allowing our diverse community members to enjoy the celebration.”
