The Downtown Mesa Association has named James (Jimmy) Cerracchio as its new executive director.
Cerracchio previously served as a project manager for the City of Mesa’s Office of Urban Transformation and will lead the organization’s efforts to support economic growth and business development in downtown Mesa, according to a press release.
The Downtown Mesa Association works with the City of Mesa, developers and nearly 400 property owners amid ongoing growth in the downtown area, including residential development and major institutional investments.
“After reviewing over 170 applications and conducting in-depth interviews with qualified candidates, our board knew that Jimmy was the perfect fit for this role,” said Tim Sprague, chair of the Downtown Mesa Association. “He has a strong understanding of downtown development, special districts, and civic partnerships, as well as an entrepreneurial mindset and passion for community transformation. Jimmy brings the perfect blend of expertise and excitement to the position. We look forward to seeing how he continues to elevate downtown Mesa.”
As executive director, Cerracchio will focus on advancing development momentum, connecting academic, corporate, cultural and community partners, integrating Arizona State University into the downtown core and supporting the next phase of revitalization efforts.

Throughout his career, Cerracchio has held leadership roles with downtown management and revitalization organizations in multiple cities. His previous positions include president and CEO of the Downtown Fresno Partnership, executive director of the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership, and senior vice president of marketing, business development and operations for the Downtown Tempe Community.
