Arizona youth hockey leader Matt Shott honored with posthumous induction

Former Arizona Coyotes employee and youth hockey leader — Matt Shott — has been posthumously named to the 2024/2025 Arizona Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Class, which honors an extraordinary group of individuals whose achievements and contributions have significantly shaped Arizona’s sports landscape.

Mr. Shott is a pioneer for hockey development in Arizona and initiated many of the NHL youth programs in the state, which contributed to the exponential growth of the sport. His resolve and commitment helped the Arizona Kachinas, the premier girls’ hockey program in Arizona, earn Tier 1 status.

“We are honored that Matt will be recognized alongside remarkable individuals who have helped shape Arizona’s sports community,” Lyndsey Fry, co-founder of the Matt Shott Arizona Hockey Legacy Foundation said. “Matt’s love for hockey and his dedication to the growth of the sport was unmatched. This induction is not only a testament to his hard work but also to the incredible community that continues to support and carry his vision forward in Arizona.”

During Matt’s 10-year tenure as an employee of the Arizona Coyotes, he developed and supported several growth programs before his passing in 2021 at the age of 34. These programs include youth and adult learn-to-play, female hockey, roller hockey, street hockey, sled hockey and special hockey.

Matt’s memory, efforts and dedication remain strong with the Matt Shott Arizona Hockey Legacy Foundation. This charitable organization is dedicated to raising funds to support hockey programming and the growth of the sport in Arizona.

The 501(c)(3) nonprofit is committed to continuing Matt’s legacy by providing opportunities for the community to engage in the sport he was so passionate about.

Mr. Shott’s induction into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame is especially significant as he earned thousands of public votes. Through his unwavering passion and vision, Mr. Shott’s legacy continues to shape the future of hockey in Arizona and inspires countless lives.
