Phoenix’s Youth and Education Office announces it is now accepting applications for the 2025 “Outstanding Phoenix Youth Leader of the Year” awards, recognizing and honoring the most impressive achievements of young people in high school. The award raises community awareness and celebrates the many positive contributions of the city’s next generation, according to city officials.
Any high school student enrolled or living in Phoenix can apply before the deadline of Feb. 23, 2025. Two students from each of the city’s eight council districts will be recognized at the annual awards presentation this spring and will receive $1,000 each. And two deserving citywide winners will be recognized with the top prize and receive an additional $2,000 each.
Students interested in applying are required to write an essay according to the application form; submit a recommendation letter from a teacher, mentor or other influencer in their life; and submit proof of legal United States residence.
Awardees will be invited to the celebration event this spring at Phoenix Country Club, hosted by Mayor Kate Gallego and members of Phoenix City Council. The event is sponsored by Rotary 100 nonprofit and Salt River Project utilities.
Eligible students should apply through the online application by Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025.
The Youth and Education Office connects city services, community resources and Phoenix schools to ensure K-12 students receive the support they need to succeed. A key responsibility is staffing the Youth and Education Commission, which includes community members who offer policy guidance, develop educational initiatives and facilitate school-to-career transitions.
