Players from Phoenix Rising Football Club visited families and newborn patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and The Nest women’s services unit at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, spending time with families and caregivers navigating medical challenges.
The Sept. 16 visit was part of the partnership between Phoenix Rising Football Club and Abrazo Health and reflected the organizations’ focus on community engagement and health initiatives, according to a press release.
“We know that encouragement can make a difference when people are facing difficult circumstances,” said Conrad Ambursley, forward for Phoenix Rising Football Club. “Meeting these families and seeing the dedication of the NICU team was inspiring. We were honored to spend time with them and hopefully bring a few smiles along the way.”
During the visit, players met with patients and families and posed for photos with newborns and family members.
“It was such a pleasant surprise. It was just another day in the NICU until they showed up and paid attention to my little baby. She’s only three weeks old and was the star of the show and the athletes could recognize the little fighter in her, so we will remember this highlight forever in our NICU experience,” said Mollie Beyer, whose baby is receiving care in the NICU.
Jean-Éric Moursou, midfielder for Phoenix Rising Football Club, echoes a similar sentiment.
“It was a privilege to meet the parents and caregivers today,” he said. “The strength these families show every day is remarkable. We are grateful for the opportunity to support them and recognize the healthcare professionals who care for these newborns around the clock.”
