Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council marked the opening of a new multi-use sports court at Shadow Rim Ranch near Payson, according to a press release.

The court, funded through a grant from the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, provides a space for girls attending camp and participating in year-round programs to engage in recreational and team-based activities.

Located in the Tonto National Forest, the 60-foot-by-50-foot court is expected to serve about 1,500 girls annually, along with an additional 500 participants during summer camp. The space is designed for activities including basketball, volleyball, badminton, street hockey, pickleball, four square and hopscotch.

“We appreciate investments like this and the meaningful impact they create for girls,” Mary Mitchell, co-CEO of Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, said. “ Girl Scouts will discover their potential on the court by taking healthy risks, trying a sport for the first time, learning to work together as a team and earning patches that recognize their achievements.”

The project supports the council’s efforts to provide programming for more than 12,000 girls in grades K-12 across central and northern Arizona, with a focus on teamwork, resilience and leadership development.

“We’re excited to see Girl Scouts enjoy this new space in the years ahead,” Christina Spicer, co-CEO of Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, said. “Shadow Rim Ranch has always been a special place for Girl Scouts, and this court adds a new gathering place where they can experience the joy of the outdoors together.”
