The University of Arizona Scottsdale Center will host Leaders in the Making: Young Professionals Mentoring Future Professionals on Friday, Dec. 5.
The event will bring together more than 120 students from the Scottsdale Unified School District, young professionals from Scottsdale Rising Young Professionals and educators for a day of mentorship and career exploration, according to a press release.
The annual program connects high school students with industry professionals and young leaders, offering insight into career pathways through Career and Technical Education. Students will explore opportunities in business, finance, law enforcement, hospitality and culinary arts.
The day begins with welcoming remarks from representatives of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce, Scottsdale Unified School District and the University of Arizona. Speakers will highlight the role of education, business and higher learning in creating opportunities for students.
Lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A at 101 and Raintree, followed by an interactive career exploration activity. Scottsdale Rising Young Professionals members will lead small-group discussions, allowing students to ask questions and learn what it takes to succeed in today’s workforce.
“Leaders in the Making showcases what’s possible when education, business and community come together,” said Stephanie Miller, director of programs and events at the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce. “When students connect directly with young professionals who’ve walked similar paths, they see their future in a tangible way.”
New this year, select Career and Technical Education students will participate in a three-month mentoring project with a Scottsdale Rising Young Professionals member in their chosen field. They will present their work at the Chamber’s upcoming State of Education event.
