The Phoenix 10K and Marathon will mark its 50th anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 9, with the historic launch of a full 26.2-mile marathon, the first in the event’s history.
Launched in 1976 by Dr. Art Mollen as a modest local race, this year’s “Golden Anniversary” edition will honor that legacy while making history – debuting a full 26.2-mile marathon alongside its signature 5K, 10K and half marathon events, all set against the stunning backdrop of Phoenix and Paradise Valley.
The new route starts and finishes at the historic Biltmore Fashion Park and showcases some of the Valley’s iconic scenery, including panoramic views of Piestewa Peak, Mummy Mountain and Camelback Mountain.
According to a press release, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, Phoenix Mayor’s Cup, presenting the Mayor’s Cup to the marathon winner and potentially joining runners on the course herself – underscoring her deep commitment to fitness, community engagement and the city’s running legacy.
“It’s an exciting time for Phoenix as we welcome this full marathon, building upon the legacy of our iconic Phoenix 10K,” Mr. Gallego said in a prepared statement. “The news reflects our city’s growth and commitment to fostering a healthier, more active community. I look forward to welcoming runners and fans from around the world to enjoy our beautiful weather and stunning desert scenery.”
