Phoenix celebrated the grand reopening of the historic Eastlake Pool on Saturday, marking an investment in one of the city’s culturally significant neighborhoods.
City officials, community advocates and residents gathered for remarks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the pool for public use.
Eastlake Pool, the oldest operating public pool in Phoenix, now features updated amenities designed to improve accessibility, safety and opportunities for year-round recreation, according to a press release. Renovations include:
•Increased dive well depth to 12 feet
•A new heater to warm the main pool during cooler temperatures
•A beach-entry play pool with splash features, slides, tumble buckets and a spray cannon
•Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements across both pools
•A dedicated ADA restroom with compliant light fixtures, shower and adult changing table
•A new shade structure
•Emergency exits added to the pool deck
•Upgraded security and deck lighting
“For generations, residents have come to the historic Eastlake Pool to cool off, learn to swim, create cherished memories and connect with their community,” said Mayor Kate Gallego. “Reinvesting in Eastlake Pool honors that history and furthers our goal of ensuring that every resident has access to safe, modern and accessible parks and recreation facilities. I’m committed to continuing to prioritize our neighborhoods and provide spaces where memories are made and communities thrive.”
“Eastlake Pool has always been more than just a place to swim; it’s part of the legacy of this neighborhood,” said Councilwoman Kesha Hodge Washington, who represents District 8. “For families here, it’s a gathering space and a place where kids grow confidence and feel connected to their community. This project is equity in action, honoring Eastlake’s history while investing in its future.”
“Our goal with this renovation was simple: to create a safe, welcoming place where every member of the community can feel included and have fun,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Cynthia Aguilar. “These renovations honor the legacy of Eastlake while bringing the pool into the 21st century with improved safety, accessibility and amenities for the whole family.”
With Eastlake Pool now officially open, the Parks and Recreation Department plans to introduce programming beginning in November 2025, according to a press release.
Residents can register for youth and adult swim lessons, as well as Aquafit classes focused on fitness and water safety. The upgraded play and splash features aim to restore Eastlake Pool as a community hub during the summer months.
Eastlake Pool is at 1549 E. Jefferson St.
