Lisa Borowsky is the next Scottsdale mayor taking office in January 2025.
In an act of class, Mayor David Ortega conceded his race to the Borowsky campaign offering words of encouragement — and respect for Ms. Borowsky’s commitment to serve the community of Scottsdale.
“It has been my honor to serve the residents of Scottsdale as mayor,” Mr. Ortega said in his statement to the Digital Free Press at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6.
“This was a hard fought campaign, and although my re-election fell short, I thank each and every voter, volunteer, and friend for their support. I congratulate Mayor-elect Borowsky for her win. She and I disagreed strongly about many issues during this campaign, but I recognize her commitment to the residents of Scottsdale and wish her success.”
At last count reported by the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, Ms. Borowsky received 56,050 votes or 53.89% of the 120,715 ballots cast meanwhile Mr. Ortega received 47,953 votes or 46.11% of ballots cast.
Ms. Borowsky says she believes traffic, quality development and a more effective and transparent city government are key issues voters are looking to see solved at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
As a fiscal conservative, she tells the Digital Free Press she is especially concerned about the reckless spending and budget overruns that have plagued the city of late.
“Scottsdale residents have spoken,” Ms. Borowsky said moments after Ms. Ortega conceded his campaign. “Our message of vision-based planning, budget discipline and resident-first engagement resonated widely with Scottsdale voters who came out to support me in this election.”
Ms. Borowsky says she couldn’t have done it alone.
“I’d like to thank the many volunteers, friends, family members, supporters, and — most importantly — every voter who showed up to cast their vote in support of protecting Scottsdale’s future,” she said.
“This was truly a grassroots effort by the residents of Scottsdale for the betterment of our community. I look forward to serving you as Mayor and honoring the beauty and uniqueness of our city. I am excited to get to work!”
