In the concluding chapter of our three-part series with Boxwell Homes, we sit down with company President Evan Boxwell to explore the deeper values that have shaped the firm’s reputation for excellence in Arizona’s custom homebuilding market.

With more than 100 years of combined experience behind the Boxwell Homes team, Mr. Boxwell reflects on the lessons learned through decades of building — not just homes, but lasting relationships. For Boxwell, trust is the cornerstone of every successful project, and choosing the right people is just as important as choosing the right materials.

From transformative builds that forged lifelong friendships to a steadfast commitment to transparency across all project types — whether multimillion-dollar estates or modest renovations — Boxwell Homes continues to evolve while staying true to its founding principles.

Looking ahead, the company’s vision centers on thoughtful growth, a thriving team culture, and homes that reflect the unique lives of the people who live in them.

As Mr. Boxwell puts it, the goal is simple: To create spaces that feel familiar, intentional, and deeply personal from the moment a client walks through the door.

The final installment of a 3-part series on Boxwell Homes:

*With over 100 years of combined experience, what lessons have shaped the way Boxwell Homes operates today?

We’ve learned countless lessons over the years — and we’re still learning. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, a new challenge shows up to teach you something else. That’s the nature of this business. At its core, it’s not about materials or square footage — it’s about people.

One of the most important lessons we’ve embraced is to choose people, not just projects. Mutual trust is non-negotiable. Clients need to understand the value we bring—not just as builders, but as guides throughout the entire process. If I sense that trust won’t be there, I’ll walk away from the project, no matter how prestigious it may be. Because in the end, a successful build starts with a strong relationship.

*What types of projects have been most meaningful or transformative for your team?

Over the years, Boxwell Homes has built hundreds of residences — but the ones that truly stand out are defined by the relationships forged along the way. The most memorable projects are those where our clients leaned into the process, trusted our guidance, and allowed us to help shape not just their homes, but their lives.

In those moments, something deeper happens. We become more than builders — we become partners, collaborators, and often, lifelong friends. Many of our clients still check in on us and our families, and we do the same. That kind of connection isn’t just rare in this industry — it’s the foundation of everything we do. Because at Boxwell Homes, we don’t just build homes. We build trust, legacy, and lasting relationships.

*How do you approach renovations and additions differently from new custom builds?

We don’t approach renovations and additions any differently than new custom builds — because for us, the foundation of every project is trust, not scale. Whether it’s a $5 million estate or a $200,000 kitchen refresh, our process begins with a conversation to ensure alignment with our values. We treat every client with the same level of care, transparency, and attention to detail. If we sense the trust isn’t mutual, we’ll respectfully decline the project, regardless of its prestige.

*What’s your vision for Boxwell Homes in the next 5–10 years?

Over the next 5 to 10 years, our vision for Boxwell Homes centers on thoughtful, organic growth — growth that’s not just measured in volume, but in the strength of our team, the quality of our work, and the depth of our relationships. We’re committed to building a company culture where people genuinely love what they do, feel supported in their craft, and take pride in the homes and communities they help shape.

That means investing in talent, refining our processes, and staying true to the values that have guided us from day one: transparency, integrity, and excellence.

*How do you hope clients feel when they walk into a Boxwell-built home for the first time?

We hope they feel a deep sense of recognition — not surprise. Our process is built on constant, transparent communication, so by the time they step through the door, the space should feel exactly as they envisioned. Every detail, every finish, every moment of flow is intentional and familiar. It’s not just about meeting expectations — it’s about delivering a home that feels like theirs from day one.
