Dr. Lolita Tramel, a Doctor of Nursing Practice and dual board-certified family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, has launched a new educational program designed to support caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
The online, self-paced master class, Dementia Caregiving: A Guide to Survive & Thrive, is priced at $749 and includes seven core modules plus a bonus module with five additional lessons, according to a press release.
Topics include managing behaviors, driving, daily care routines, home safety planning, communication strategies and caregiver self-care, the release states.
The curriculum is grounded in evidence-based practices and informed by Dr. Tramel’s research at Yale University and her clinical and personal experience.
“As a daughter who has walked this journey and a nurse practitioner who has treated dementia patients, I created this course to be the resource I wish I’d had,” Dr. Tramel said. “Too many caregivers are left to figure things out on their own, sacrificing their health and well-being in the process. This program equips them with the knowledge and confidence to care for their loved ones—and themselves.”
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and family members often shoulder the burden of care with limited resources. Research shows caregivers are at increased risk for depression, burnout and premature death — outcomes the course aims to help prevent.
