Digital Free Press to host City Hall general election debates if necessary

As of 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, the Maricopa County Elections Department is reporting the following unofficial results in the Scottsdale City Council election.
According to unofficial results, Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega received 21,983 or 40.7% of ballots cast meanwhile challengers Lisa Borowsky received 20,780 votes or 38.47% of ballots cast as Linda Milhaven received 11,251votes or 20.83% of ballots cast.
For a member to be elected to Scottsdale City Council outright in the July primary election they would have to receive the majority of ballots cast, election officials tell the Digital Free Press. For races still in contention, a general election will be held to decide those races, election officials say.
The race for Scottsdale City Council featured nine candidates, two incumbents seeking three seats up for grabs atop the local governing board. Those candidates are:
- Tammy Caputi
- Stephen Casares
- Jan Dubauskas
- Tom Durham
- Mason Gates
- Adam Kwasman
- Justin Laos
- Robert “Bob” Lettieri
- Maryann McAllen
In the event it is necessary, the Digital Free Press is hosting two (2) general election debates — one that will feature candidates for City Council, the other a focus on candidates for the position of mayor. Each debate will be streamed and air live on cable access television:
- Scottsdale City Council candidates who emerge from the existing field of nine (9) will face-off during a debate hosted from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
- Scottsdale mayoral candidates who emerge from the existing field of three (3) will face-off during a debate hosted from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
The three City Council candidates to receive the most votes as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 are:
- Jan Dubauskas with 24,843 votes or 18.03% of ballots cast.
- Tammy Caputi with 21,767 votes or 15.8% of ballots cast.
- Adam Kwasman with 20,555 votes or 14.92% of votes cast.
The rest of the initial unofficial vote tallies are:
- MaryAnn McAllen with 16,890 votes or 12.26% of ballots cast
- Tom Durham with 16,606votes with 12.05% of ballots cast.
- Robert ‘Bob’ Lettieri with 14,214 votes or 10.32% of ballots cast.
- Mason Gates with 10,952 votes or 7.95% of ballots cast.
- Stephen Casares with 6,256or 4.54% of ballots cast.
- Justin Laos with 5,703 votes or 4.14% of ballots cast.
