Scottsdale City Council through the Tourism Development Fund is providing a $75,000 shot-in-the-arm to help produce the highly anticipated Arizona Bike Week event hosted at WestWorld of Scottsdale this April.
Scottsdale City Council unanimously approved the one-time $75,000 funding request at its March 5 regular meeting at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd, during consent agenda approvals.
“Arizona Bike Week has participated in the Matching Event Advertising Fund Program for 17 years and received $30,000 in fiscal year 2022/23,” said Scottsdale Tourism Manager Steve Geiogamah in his March 5 report to City Council.
“FX Promotions will promote the Arizona Bike Week using a multi-layered marketing campaign including social media, website, radio, email, and print. The producer is allocating $217,000 toward event marketing against a total event budget of $2.2 million. Proposed funding of $75,000 represents 34% of direct dollar event marketing and 3% of the total event budget.”
Mr. Geiogomah reports the Tourism Development Commission recommended approval of the funding request at its Jan. 29 meeting.
“Allocation of potential funds will be from the Tourism Development Fund established for events and event development. The 27th annual five-day event will take place April 3-7, 2024, with a producer estimated attendance of more than 95,000,” he said pointing out Arizona Bike Week is the sourthwest’s largest motorcycle rally.
“In addition to motorcycles and music, the powersport rally consists of charity rides, custom builder displays, vendor exhibitions, demonstration rides and competitions. FX Promotions, the Arizona Bike Week producer, has proposed a one-year agreement with the city of Scottsdale for event development of the bike rally event.”
