Stand for Children Arizona, a leading advocate for quality education in Arizona, is offering strong support for Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs’ proposal to extend Proposition 123 and applauds her commitment to improving education across the state.
Proposition 123, a significant education funding initiative passed by voters in 2016, has provided critical resources for Arizona’s schools but is set to expire in 2025.
Governor Hobbs’ plan will extend the funding for another 10 years and will expand it to add much needed pay for teachers and support staff, as well as increased school safety.
Gov. Hobbs’ proposal would add over $760 million per year to schools and teachers without raising taxes, according to a press release.
“Recent polling data shows that 73% of voters believe schools need more funding. Gov. Hobbs’ approach is not just a superficial attempt to mollify them. It is a substantial investment in schools that the legislature should refer to the November ballot — and then, Arizonans must vote for it,” said Rebecca Gau, executive director of Stand for Children Arizona.
Stand for Children Arizona remains dedicated to working with Gov. Hobbs and other education stakeholders to ensure that our schools are adequately funded, our teachers are supported, and all children have the opportunities they deserve.
