The Saguaros, a philanthropic membership organization, is announcing 2023 gifting over $1.7 million in grants to 28 Arizona nonprofits. Of that total, nearly $120,00 went to six Arizona children’s charities serving support to children and their families going through cancer treatment.

“September is children’s cancer awareness month, so we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the organizations in our community who are making an incredible impact helping families going through an extremely challenging time,” Saguaros Charities Chairman Hunter Fadynich said in a prepared statement. “It’s our honor to support these nonprofits with funding, as well as having our members volunteer at a variety of events that help brighten the spirits of the kids.”

Care Fund received a $49,791 grant to support Arizona families who endure financial hardship and are in danger of losing their home due to mounting bills while they are experiencing an extended medical illness or injury of their child. Most illnesses are child cancer, premature birth complications, and heart and lung issues. The Care Fund provides mortgage and rent support during a child’s medical health crisis, ensuring that parents can prioritize caring for their ill child.

Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels received a $27,500 grant to help bring comfort and dignity to children experiencing cancer through the Comfort and Care Program. This is the third year The Saguaros are supporting this program which provides children living with cancer and their families a support system to improve the quality of their lives. The funding supports individual and group counseling, support groups, and play therapy for our families.

Children’s Cancer Network received a $22,500 grant for their work to support children and families throughout their cancer journey with programs and services designed to provide financial assistance, promote education, encourage healthy lifestyles, and create an awareness of issues they face related to childhood cancer.

Ryan House received a $10,000.00 grant to support their Sponsor-A-Stay program. Respite care through Sponsor-A-Stay is a gift of time that allows parents to reconnect with one another and gives siblings rare time alone with their parents. This care also provides their child with a life-limiting or terminal illness a comfortable, away-from-home experience, and an opportunity to make friends and participate in activities otherwise unavailable to them. In addition, the program’s in-patient palliative care aims to holistically identify, and address the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and emotional needs of both the child and family, enhancing quality of life and minimizing suffering.

Crowns of Courage received a $7,500 grant to provide wigs to children undergoing chemotherapy, with the goal of alleviating the fear of chemotherapy related to hair loss and reducing the trauma of hair loss for children. The wigs can be made using a child’s own hair or by using hair that has been donated by hundreds of caring individuals.

Kameron’s Krusaders received a $2,500 grant to support their second annual Holiday Family Extravaganza, an adopt-a-family program designed to serve families around the holidays by providing Grocery and Gas Gift Cards, Christmas Gifts of all types for everyone in the immediate family, and large family-oriented gifts to round out their holiday season. For some families, Kameron’s Krusaders delivery represents the only holiday gifts received.
