As pickleball thrives, Scottsdale partners to expand access to sport
Staff Reports | Community Updates
Scottsdale Parks and Recreation is partnering with Scottsdale Community College offering free access for drop-in play.
Instruction-based programs will be available at a nominal fee, city officials say.
There are six pickleball courts on SCC’s campus found just west of the Fitness Wellness Center. Under this partnership agreement, the courts are free to use for drop-in play and accessible daily from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. but excluding holidays, campus closures and when SCC pickleball classes are being held.
Resident feedback during the Parks and Recreation Master Plan process, city officials say, identified pickleball as one of the top five most desired future recreation programs among Scottsdale residents.
The city is supporting SCC by promoting its pickleball activities in the Scottsdale Life Magazine and through social media channels. Additionally, SCC will receive up to $1,000 annually from the city to assist with equipment replacement, ensuring the continued quality and accessibility of the courts.
“This partnership allows us to meet the growing demand for pickleball use in Scottsdale,” said Community Services Assistant Executive Director Nick Molinari, in a prepared statement. “It expands access to instruction and play for our residents – while allowing us to support SCC’s commitment to recreational opportunities, as well.”
