In a move that sets a benchmark for employee benefits and prioritizes work-life balance, City Hall officials contend, Scottsdale City Council last night unanimously adopted a new ordinance providing essential support to its employees as they journey into parenthood.
The City Council’s action last night grants eligible city employees four weeks of continuous paid parental leave, whether they are welcoming a new child through birth, adoption, or foster care placement, according to a press release.
“Scottsdale’s parental paid leave policy reaffirms our dedication to support growing families,” said Mayor David Ortega moments following the close of the public hearing last night. “Whether through birth or adoption, our employees can enjoy quality time during these joyful life events.”
Mayor Ortega says the new parental paid leave policy is a reflection of Scottsdale’s commitment to creating a supportive work environment that values the well-being of its employees and their families.
Of Note: Leave runs concurrently with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and is available to employees who meet specific eligibility criteria. It must be used on a continuous basis and can be taken within 12 months of the date of birth, adoption, or foster care placement.
“We are committed to retaining the wonderful people who work for the city and ensuring we are also an attractive employer as we recruit new staff – this is an investment in strong municipal services and in the future of Scottsdale,” Mayor Ortega said.
