Fine art photographer Larry Brecker is exhibiting 35 flora photographs at Town Hall, 6401 E. Lincoln Drive.

The PV Arts Board is hosting two “Coffee with the Artist” events for the Town of Paradise Valley’s featured artist, fine art photographer Larry Brecker, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, and Friday, April 19, at the Paradise Valley Town Hall and Community Room.

Mr. Brecker, and his wife, ikebana artist and teacher, Carol Brecker, will also be available to sign their new book, “Desert Inspired.”

Mr. Brecker was chosen by the PV Arts Board to be the featured artist at Paradise Valley Town Hall for 2023-24.

A Town of Paradise Valley resident, Mr. Brecker is exhibiting 35 pieces of fine art photography featuring Arizona flora and work influenced by ikebana, the art of Japanese floral arranging.

Mr. Brecker is a lifelong photographer who spent 40 years working as a dermatologist before pursuing his career as a fine art photographer.

During his practice, his photos were used for teaching physicians locally, nationally, and internationally to detect various disorders. In his spare time, he enjoyed taking photos of flora and fauna, and he found that his scientific training and eye for discerning detail helped him discover a deeper understanding of the beauty of nature.

Carol Brecker is a certified first degree Jonin Somu teacher with the Sogetsu School in Tokyo and chairperson for Phoenix Sogetsu Ikebana.

She has been a student of ikebana for over 20 years, and has been teaching classes and workshops since 2006.

The artistic couple recently published “Desert Inspired,” the first book in a series based on Larry’s photography of desert flowers and cactus and Carol’s ikebana.

The 50-page book features floral photography from their lovely garden with a short description of each with a listing of the floral materials in the ikebana arrangements.

The PV Arts Board “Coffee with the Artist” events provide an informal opportunity to meet Mr. Brecker, learn about his passion for photography, and purchase his art. Larry and Carol will also be available to sign “Desert Inspired,” which is available for $65.
