School’s out for summer! Here’s a list of summer camps and places to go

For many unified districts across the Valley of the Sun, school is now officially out — and the kids are home for the summer.

Here are a handful of summer programs curated for parents looking to keep their children entertained, but still learning during the summer break. They are:

•Act One

Act One connects Arizona students to the arts through in-person and virtual reality field trips and free passes to arts and cultural organizations. New opportunity for kids this summer – Act One is now available to take their VR field trip anywhere like summer camps or summer school.

•Brightside Studios

Brightside Studios is a creative space and local business offering well-lit studio workstations for artists, fun art courses, and a music lounge all under the comfort of air conditioning. Or, the Paint and Pour workstation helps artists who want a messier, fun craft time. The music lounge host weekly live concerts on weekend nights while the cafe serves Cartel coffee and delicious bites like flatbread pizza, charcuterie boards and avocado toast.

•Hunkapi Programs

Hunkapi Programs, an equine-therapy farm in Scottsdale, is offering three different summer camps to help children and teens transition back into a regimen that is conducive to learning. Counselors and therapists offer activities with children that teach them to expand social skills, maintain focus and carry out responsibilities.

  • Summer Camp for Teens : June 6-10
  • Summer Camp for Littles : June 13-17
  • Summer Camp for Children with Special Abilities : June 20-24

•Tortilla Flat

Tortilla Flat is a historic western town nestled in the Superstition Mountains, boasting a population of six people. While at Tortilla Flat, visitors can enjoy many activities including stunning outdoor hikes, water sports at Canyon Lake, delicious southwest dining at the saloon, world-famous prickly pear gelato at the country store and a look at Arizona’s rich history in the museum. Also, you can check out their latest jail, if you dare, of course.
