Kuma Swamy recognized for dedication to education at Abrazo Scottsdale

Many words like pharmacist, educator, mentor, teammate and friend can be used to describe Kumar Swamy, a hospital pharmacist at Abrazo Scottsdale Campus. Add one more: Hero.
Dr. Swamy recently was presented with the Tenet Hero Award for his outstanding contributions in 2022. The award is part of Abrazo Health parent company Tenet Healthcare’s annual employee recognition.
The Tenet Heroes program celebrates individuals who make a meaningful impact within their communities and go above and beyond their daily responsibilities, Abrazo Health representatives tell the Arizona Digital Free Press.
Dr. Swamy was recognized for many reasons including his dedication to quality, service and education during his 15 years at Abrazo Scottsdale Campus.
“Kumar works closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students. He is a team player who works closely with everyone emphasizes quality of service that we provide to our patients and their families,” read the nomination submitted by his colleagues.
He also is an educator for pharmacy students at Midwestern University and other healthcare professionals, and initiated nursing education on diabetic ketoacidosis guidelines for the hospital’s nursing staff.
“I enjoy working here,” Mr. Swamy said as he accepted the Tenet Hero Award. “I’d like to thank each and every department for their teamwork. The whole hospital is part of my family, thank you everyone.”
The respect from his students at Midwestern University is evident in the 2023 Preceptor of the Year Award he received:

He makes himself accessible and is a trusted source and reference by other doctors and nurses. Dr. Swamy is a motivational mentor and takes the time to access a student’s interest and future plans.”
