The Human Services Campus begins monthly ThirstAid water drives on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. ThirstAid collections will take place the first Saturday of every month through September, officials there say.
The designated collection location is near the Harrison Street Gate at 1300 W. Harrison in Phoenix. HSC staff and partner organizations will unload all donations.
“Even this early in April, the heat is hitting 100 degrees and we want to be sure we have enough water for the people experiencing homelessness both on and around the Human Services Campus,” said HSC, Inc. Development Director Steve Davis, in a prepared statement. “For many, it is literally a life-or-death situation.”
HSC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, owns and operates a 13-acre campus at 12th Avenue and Madison that is home to 16 nonprofit organizations providing services and resources to help people end their homelessness.
Today, 900 individuals experiencing homelessness are sheltered every day on the campus with nearly 900 unsheltered individuals on the streets surrounding the Campus.
Urgent seasonal needs include electrolyte powdered drink packets, sunscreen and SPF lip balm, solid grey bandanas (no patterns), sun hats, baseball caps, sunglasses, insulated water jugs (half-gallon preferred) and cooling wraps and towels.
Donations of hygiene items and pet supplies are always accepted.
