The Arizona Sustainability Alliance, which is based in Tempe, is a national finalist in the nonprofit category for the Cox Conserves Heroes Award.

The Cox Conserves Heroes Award strives to recognize outstanding individuals and volunteer organizations that work tirelessly to create, preserve or enhance outdoor spaces in neighbors around the country that Cox serves.

This program was founded in honor of Cox family member Jim Kennedy, Cox Enterprises chairman emeritus and James M. Cox Foundation chairman, according to press release.

Mr. Kennedy, an environmentalist, started the Cox Conserves sustainability program in 2007.

The top winner of the Cox Conserves Heroes Awards will win $30,000, with runner-ups winning $15K-Second prize and $5k-Third prize, the release states.

The Arizona Sustainability Alliance is a volunteer, nonpartisan group dedicated to protecting our environment and promoting sustainable living.

The Arizona Sustainability Alliance helps the Arizona community by cleaning up local parks, planting trees, refreshing and repairing existing community garden beds, educating the public about renewable energy, strategically implementing renewable energy projects in the Phoenix Metro, supporting regenerative local food systems, increasing the tree canopy in low-income areas throughout Arizona, representatives of the brand say.
