Abrazo Health is offering quick, low-cost vascular assessment screenings this month.
Abrazo Cave Creek Hospital, 5227 E. Carefree Highway, is offering heart attack and stroke risk screening assessments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 12. Also, Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital, 1930 E. Thomas Road, is offering $59 heart attack and stroke risk assessments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 13.
Potential artery blockages and irregular heartbeat have been identified in participants at previous Abrazo vascular screening events across the Valley, according to Abrazo Health Outreach Manager Cindy Roberts, RN.
Abrazo’s Angioscreen screenings check blood flow in carotid and ankle arteries, and includes a simple EKG for heart rhythm, a blood pressure check and overall fitness assessment. A clinician reviews results for indications of an individual’s risk for heart attacks, stroke or peripheral artery disease.
Participants get color ultrasound photos of their carotid arteries and are encouraged to follow up with their personal physician and share any concerns.
Several studies show heart attacks increase during the holidays. In one study, researchers found that coronary death rates in December and January were some 33% higher than during summer months.
Heart attacks affect more than 800,000 men and women annually in the U.S., and every year, more than 795,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“We’re all busy during the holidays, but why not take 10 minutes to give yourself the gift of good health? This simple, non-invasive screening will provide information about your circulation and risk for heart disease, PAD and stroke,” said Roberts. “We’ve had a very positive response to previous events and expect our December screenings to fill quickly.”
